World Responsible Tourism Award
Turtle Bay Beach Club has been named the Silver winner of the Best for Beach Tourism category at the World Responsible Tourism Awards2015 at World Travel Market in London.

The Kenyan beach resort was announced the Silver winner at a special ceremony at World Travel Market in London, part of World Responsible Tourism Day.
​
The Best for Beach Tourism awards those organisations and businesses with a progressive ethical approach to maintaining the sustainable practices in a beach setting.
​
The judges were looking for leadership in responsible tourism policies and practices, positive integration and relationships with local communities, and proven achievements in maintaining/conserving beach environments.

Professor Harold Goodwin, Chair of the judging panel comments on why Turtle Bay Beach Club has been recognised "The judges recognised the leading role they have played in establishing the Watamu Marine Association bringingtogether30 marine stakeholder organisations and groups from the tourism, community and environment sectors, the Beach Cleaning and Community Waste Management and Recycling Project and in helping other local hotels to set up their own Environmental Management Teams".

Turtle Bay Beach Club commented on their win, 'We are delighted to have been recognised for our efforts in this field. We believe that good environmental practice operated in conjunction with the community is the only way forward for all hotels".

Welcoming over 5OO people to the event in London, Justin Francis, Managing director of Awards organisers Responsible Travel explained how the Awards were founded to change the face of the tourist industry. "The aim of the Awards is to inspire the tourists and the tourism industry by what is possible to achieve through responsible tourism" says Francis.
“In our 12th year we have added one more inspiring winner and more remarkable stories which will shape how the industry and tourists think about the future of tourism".
